The Lower Breede River is a must for bird watchers. The majestic Fish Eagle, the Osprey, Fish Owl, Kingfisher, Oyster Catcher, the Blue Crane and an amazing variety of other birds are often seen along the banks of the Breede. (be sure to bring a book about the local birds to identify them) gallery>
Mammals found in the LBRC and surrounding De Hoop Nature Reserve, endangered bontebok, baboons, ostriches, eland, grey rhebuck, duiker and steenbok. The Southern Right Whales calve and mate in the sheltered bay during the whale season. (May and December). gallery>
The Breede River, has some of the most beautiful and dramatic river vistas. Take long walks along the sand banks and rivers edge. A great place for photography. Hike to the point and enjoy the Whales. gallery>
