The Breede River can be found in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. The geographical area managed by the LBRC extends 10 kilometres either side of the Breede River mouth at Witsand and Infanta and one kilometre back from the shoreline and river banks, right up to the furthest tidal reach above Malagas, approximately 55 kilometres inland.

To conserve and protect, in a sustainable manner, the natural resources and living species of the biologically and ecologically sensitive Breede River estuary and the adjoining land areas (coastal protection zone), thereby improving the quality of life of the affected communities while preserving the natural environment and fulfilling the contractual obligations to its Principals.
The LBRC's objectives
The Conservancy (LBRC) operates under the direction of the Lower Breede River Conservancy Trust (LBRCT) (Master’s Reference number 44/2000.) Staff report to a management committee appointed by the trustees of the LBRCT. These appointees are sourced, inter alia, from nominations made by members of the Conservancy at the Annual Information Meetings for Members.
